With over 25 years of experience in clinical medicine and surgery, health care administration, and academic and industry research and strategy development, Rich brings a dynamic, passionate approach to helping clients identify needs and bridge the gap to success. Drawing on his experiences and knowledge gained from faculty positions at Johns Hopkins and Duke University Health Systems, Rich is able to help navigate the intricacies of academic practice and research programs. In addition, time spent as a Medical Director and Strategic Director within the health care industry with Merz North America and Olympus Corporation has given him an intimate understanding of the local and global requirements for clinical study and product strategic development, as well as the cross-cultural collaboration often needed for success.

Kristine Schulz, DrPH, MPH / Managing Member
For over 20 years, primarily in academic research roles (at Duke University Health System and Virginia Commonwealth University), Kris has been involved in the whole research development process — opportunity identification; writing and submitting grants and proposals to the National Institutes of Health, foundations, industry and individual donors; presenting to both small to large audiences (including national and international research conferences); and then overseeing the carryout of funded initiatives and producing reports and manuscripts. Kris loves working with local and national teams across the country. Kris’ training in health education complements her skills as an epidemiologist and methodologist, allowing her to translate research into practice and policy through communication to all audiences.

David L. Witsell MD, MHS / Managing Member
David began his research career at the University of Colorado while in medical school and worked in basic science research labs through his surgical residency in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at the University of North Carolina. During his residency, he developed novel cell lines for head and neck cancer research. David was recruited to Duke University Medical School as faculty in 1995 and steered his research career towards clinical research. Since 1997, David has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Industry, and Foundations for conduct of clinical and patient-related outcomes research. David has extensive experience in building research networks, including CHEER (Creating Healthcare Excellence through Education and Research), to accomplish large scale multicenter research, randomized clinical trials, and health related quality of life research. In addition, he has extensive experience in leadership training for development of research initiatives and for organizational change. As a clinician, he has dedicated himself to care of patients with vocal disorders and cancer, and is the founding director of the Duke Voice Care Center.
